SPEM
2008
SPEM is a recording of Thomas Tallis's 40-part Renaissance motet (circa 1570). The recording of the piece is arranged for 40 cellos, with all parts played by Peter Gregson.
It is incredibly layered and mathematical in its composition yet also very beautiful. The number 40 is a recurring theme in the composition – at bar 40 Thallis allows all forty voices to sound together for the first time.
My cover design is based around a 40-cell grid (5x8). The cover features 40 concentric tetracontagons (40-sided polygons) overlaid on this grid. Typography inside the cd booklet may enter the grid at any of the 40 cells, just as each of the voices enter the piece at various times.
This cover design was featured in the 2008 exhibition 'Spin: The Art of Cover Design', curated by Peter Saville.

2011
The cover of this EP features a spectrogram of one of the tracks. A spectrogram is a visual representation of the spectrum of frequencies of a signal as it varies with time, with low frequencies at the bottom and higher frequencies at the top. The time scale runs from left to right. A user could take this image and input it back into spectrogram software and be able to hear the track.

Lights in the Sky
2014
Lights in the Sky was the first digital only release by Peter Gregson for which I designed artwork. The design takes into account the reduced real estate for artwork on digital platforms. It features a photograph that I shot for the album cover, taking advantage of the vibrant RGB colours that a screen offers, which would traditionally not be possible to achieve in print. The cover was designed to achieve as much stand out as possible on platforms such as iTunes and Spotify.
